Derivations: I'm not sure which of these versions came first. In the Folk Revival there was a lot of borrowing of formerly English-turned American folk songs by British bands, and that may be the case with the Waterson's version of "Heavenly Aeroplane". The song is a gospel hymn, dating back to at least 1920. It was sung in Holy Roller meetings in the 1930s in Missouri and Arkansas, which the 2nd version is from--a sort of sung sermon. Stay tuned next week as we continue in this line and explore the hymn 'Mary Don't You Weep' which borrows verses, melody lines, and similar fire and brimstone sentiments from 'Heavenly Airplane'

29) Longer Boats- Cat Stevens, Radio Sessions 1971-1973 "I'd like to sing a song...I think it's about...SPACESHIPS, this one..." In this live version, Cat adds a special verse, something to the effect of, "Raise your mind up and look around, you may see them, yes they're looking down, on a lonely asteroid, in a vacant void, dying but not destroyed"??!?
